Making of – Tamiya 1/20 McLaren Mercedes MP4/13

Long time no see my friends.
After almost two years in the limbo is time to get back on business.
I’m currently building the McLaren MP4/13 used by Mika Hakkinen during the 98 season.

Standard build, as always.
Apart from the model I will just use a vary basic detail set from Studio 27 and a West decal sheet also from Studio 27.

Great! Are you going to use decals for the fade to grey livery?

Hi Nuno, very nice to see you back on AF after so long.
Gotta love the MP4/13 and I'm sure you will do your usual sensational job on it.

Re: Making of – Tamiya 1/20 McLaren Mercedes MP4/13

Thanks for your comments. It’s really nice to be back.
Finally I finished all the putty and sanding process and started to apply colour.

For several months I tried to find some MS-5 spray can but can’t find it anywhere.
I’m going to give the first two coats with TS-42 and give a final coat with some MS-5 left from the NSR 500. Hope that it is sufficient to paint all the car body.

Yes, I will use the decals for the fade. I bought my airbrush just last week and this paint scheme is much to difficult for be an option.

Looks good so far, does it include the Germany GP wing or the Japanese GP wing?

No. For now will be the default wing, used in Monza and Hokkenein.
Meanwhile if I can get the Japan GP version I will probably change it.

I started to place the decals. I had some trouble in placing one of the main decals, it is not correctly align. I’m trying to buy a replacement sheet but I think it will be hard to do so. If not no problem, the imperfection is so small that is hard to notice.
