Re: It happens again!

It's like a time trial, you race in your particular speed bracket. And yes, it is very legal, they close the highway at 5am the day of the race and block off all access roads.

Example, you sign up for the 110mph class. Your goal is to average 110mph the entire race, it has turns, it has a very techicnical section that lasts for about 2 miles called the 'narrows'.

You have several people in your class trying to beat you, whoever can average the closest to the 110mph goal, wins.

It's held over a distance of 90 miles. The classes range anything from 95mph to 180mph. It's alot harder than it sounds, I've seen results where the winner won their class by something rediculous like .0012 of a mph. It gets really close.

And besides, how often do you get to do 110...120...130...140+ past a Highway Patrol officer and him wave you by with a big grin?

I'm building my car to do many things. This is one of them.

There are a few orginizations that hold "Open Road Races" (ORR).

But this particular race, is held in norther Nevada. About 90 miles north of Las Vegas.

Re: It happens again!

by saying "completely" you're implying that you mean the entirety of the course.

maybe you should've phrased it better. or actually read it properly, it really isn't that hard.

Re: It happens again!

If your ever up here let me know....there is accually an unlimited class as well...they try to average the highest mph in thier class, usually 200 +. The narrows are very dangerous, there have been countless vetts, vipers, and such end up on the side of the road or slammed into a rockwall....pretty crazy. I didn't get any vids they did the shootout while i was at work, and only a few pics, sigh....but some none the less...get them up asap.

Edit: You also have to cross the finish line going at least 80 MPH....so you just can't sit there and wait for the time to be right to get your average...haha..

Re: It happens again!

Wow, that would take some serious fastage....lol.

Do you get a navigator or do you have to go about it all by yourself?

Re: It happens again!

It's your choice to take a navigator or not. A couple years back this vette in the unlimited class blew a tire right in front of our gate that we were manning to make sure no one would go on the road, and it took a couple miles to stop haha....blew his whole quater pannel off.
