Revell 1/24 Jordan Mugen Honda EJ10 speed build

For all those that haven't seen my WIP thread, this was built for a 2 week Group Build over on MUG, the aim of the GB was to get modelling, the kit had to be built straight OOB and was to cost no more than GBP10.00 (approx USD20.00).

It didn't help things that I was away for 4 days in the middle of the GB, but I got there in the end, its not my best work, and I only had time to work with the paints at hand, the yellow used is probably slightly too dark and too orange, but its all I had.

I may well revisit this kit in the future and give it the works, but it is not revells best by a long way, the fit of some parts is trully atrocious and the breakdown of parts somewhat bewhildering at times. The wheels aren't fitted in most of the shots for a reason they don't fit onto the stub axles that Revell provide, now you would think I'd have tried fitting them before, but as I thought they were going to be a push fit I deliberately didn't, the end result being I have a jordan that the wheels fall off

I'll fix them later, now the pressures off, and before any one comments I'll also do the mirrors in BMF, not that Jarno ever uses his mirrors of course ;-).

It's been fun working to a deadline, and it is good to clear part of the stash.

looks nice, but did the kit come with no brake detail? no rotors and no calipers?

Well, if this is a quick build, itīs a very nice one! I wish, some of my long term projects became that good.
Only the tyres are a bit too shiny, you should sand them.

The kit has a very basic parts breakdown, at the front end you get a one piece moulding of the upright, brake duct, rotor and stub axle, there is no representation of the caliper at all , at the rear you again get a one piece moulding but this time both uprights and the drive shafts are moulded as one.

As this was for an OOB build, I didn't attempt to add any other detail, but the real problem is the wheels have 2mm hole, but the front stub axle is less than 1 mm diameter , I've fixed it now I cut off the existing stub axle and drilled into the rotor and glued a new shaft of the correct diameter.

The rear stubs are better, and I probably could have adapted them to fit, but in the end I opted to make the same fix at the rear too.

Thanks for the compliment, I'm quite happy with the way it turned out, and it's made my mind up about getting some more of the Revell kits as it seems unlikely that Tamiya will ever get back in the groove .

Now that I've fixed the wheel fitting problem I will probably attempt to sand the wheels to give them a worn finish.

To be honest Steve I can't quite believe I managed to get it done in 2 weeks either, especially as I spent the middle weekend helping my partners son to move house, and didn't get to touch it from Thursday night to Monday evening, I've also been working all week so it's only been evenings any way, I was able to devote some time to it this last weekend and spent nearly all day Sunday applying the decals.

The decal sheet design is a credit to Revell, it provides most of the black areas of the car, so painting was a doddle just an overall coat of yellow.

I'm definitely tempted to do another Revell F1 car and they do seem to produce some interesting subjects, might get a Sauber or BMW next.
