AN RB skyline in A VH or VC?

iv been looking at half cut prices for rb20det and rb25de and watever else i could possibley aford and am wondering if is possible to stick one of em in a early bird bilike a vh or vc
you always hear about it done to a vl as the motors and Gbox are nearly the same but not so much with the older ones
does anyone know anyone that has done it or know about it and what sort of mods need to engine mounts ect?
can you put vl mouts on a vc?

Well the VL came with an early version of the RB series engine, and so swapping in a later one from a later model skyline is pretty easy.
The mounts and basic wireing already there.

Sticking an RB into an earlier Holden would still be possible, just a lot more involving.

You would have to fabricate all new engine mounts, gear shift, and tail shaft, as well do a more than a small amount of wiring and find somewhere to hide the ECU.
Its possible, and if you got a frount cut then you would already have the wiring loom, it would just a long and frustrating job making it fit.

On top of that you have to get it through compliancing, either LTSA or ADR rules depending on where you are.


It would be one hell of a project though, the only thing you would not have to worry about is engine bay room, as a 202 or 186 is about the only 6cyl enigne Iv seen thats bigger than an RB (and that includes some large truck motors)

In terms of performance it would however offer no advantages over a tradional V8, weight would still be the same, as is the amount of power you can make, but in terms of it being a differnt and challanging project it I can think of little better (unless you were thinking about an old Jag V12 or something).


But remember along with the engine you would also have to do serious work to the suspension and brakes, its no good having lots of power if you can't control it.

Yes. the vh is a beatiful car but the one im lookin ats only got a crappy clapped out 6cl bluey in er i mean really wat can you do wit that? better off throwin in some technology. come on lets see..... um lets see ahhh 87kw Vs 158kw or 165kw the choice is simple
if it can be done on budget it will be done!

If you want more technology then what about a V8 from a wrecked Comonhore?
Getting something post VR shouldn't cost to much, and might be cheaper than an imported RB20det (which is not going to make as much power with out some more $$ spent on it).


Would be just as much work in terms of wiring, but there are plenty of kits out there that makes sorting things like the mounts, tailshaft and gear box out much much easier, which in the end will save $$ and time as these are the annoying things that will end up costing the most if you try and put an RB into it.

And tell me, honestly, would you rather have a 165kw 6cyl, or a 185kw V8 which never has to worry about Turbo lag

Add on to that 3.0 less displacement (If Pre VT SII) and incapability to haul a big car along at reasonable pace

Yeah, its a hard one.
While an RB would be cool, simply for being a little differnt, and would if done properly would make a great show car, as a road driven performance car it really wouldnt have what it takes to haul around a big heavy VH or VC, the skyline and VL are both light weight cars remember, and are all the RB was designed to move around.
However if your keen on a big 6, then what about a supercharged V6 from the later comonwhores?
Or get a Yellowterra Turbo kit for a 202?
Or how about a 4.0l twin cam jag engine? Expesive, but designed for hauling lots of weight.

Why not update the VC/VH 202 to efi, with an updated cam & head?

Always upsets people when they're done in by a 202 :P

what makes the vl lighter than a vh or vc apart from the actual engine? apart from the switch to alloy from steel i didnt think would think there would be too much more steel on it apart from the panals
do you now how much the turbo kit would cost ?
