Hello, I'm new. I need some advice as well.

So I'm new to the whole driving thing. I got my license just a little over two months ago...and I already have 2 tickets lol. I love driving though, but the only problem is my car.

I have a 1996 Toyota Corolla DX. 1.8L

Yeah, I know.

It's in excellent condition, no problems whatsoever. But driving isn't as fun if you don't have a fast car. So I need some advice from the experts.

What should I do? Is there any possible way to get my Corolla to even compare to the competition?

Thanks for the help and I hope to talk to all of you soon.

Wrong section...this is reserved for street racing...

Now that thats said. What competition are you talking about? With that Toyota your not going to be keeping up with to much....Save your money and trade in on something worth putting money into.....

Re: Hello, I'm new. I need some advice as well.

Ha, sorry. I figured it would tie in with street racing since that's what I want to do.

When I say competition, I mean competition around my city/school. Some competition at school is a Dodge SRT-4 and a 1992 Mustang. There are 1 or 2 more that I can't remember.

So far that's the same response I've gotten from people: trade in my Corolla for something new. I just don't know where to start and what to look at.

Any suggestions?

Well, to play with an SRT-4 or a Mustang with a 5.0 you'll need something of equal or better performance.

Re: Hello, I'm new. I need some advice as well.

well, you could save and buy a new car, or save for engine swap. rice(er) should be able to tell you all about the corrolla's if he reads this eventually. if im correct, you can drop in the turbo engine from the celica, and have a beast with no traction. but its not worth it.

you already have 2 tickets? jeez, thats fast. i say just grab suspention mods, and go auto-x. its pretty fun. you dont even need suspention mods for auto-x though.

Re: Hello, I'm new. I need some advice as well.

I'd say at 16 with 2 tickets under your belt, dont bother with the car, learn how to drive for a while and save up money for a better car. That way you can get something faster and actually know how to handle it.

Re: Hello, I'm new. I need some advice as well.

Pay off the two tickets first.
Learn to drive, and not get cought.
Then come back.

EDIT: Stay with your car, because right now you don't need anything faster than that Corolla. You will thank me later.

Re: Hello, I'm new. I need some advice as well.

yeah if you have 2 tickets already, its obvious your shouldnt be driving a more powerful car. Before you kill yourself or someone else on the road, give up this idea of street racing for a while. Its only going to end badly for you

two tickets in two months is too much learn to drive well on auto x or 1/4 strip and then later buy a faster car

I'm in with the rest of these guys. Your car isn't worth putting much money into and you need some more experience and need to learn some responsibility before getting anything faster.

Re: Hello, I'm new. I need some advice as well.

Yeah.

One of the tickets was dismissed by the judge though. I'm not sure if it still counts against me though. I still need to go to court for the other ticket. In Ohio if you get three tickets before you're 18, depending on the severity it could be two, then you get your license taken away until you're 18.

I'm probably going to wait a while for a new car then although I'm very impatient. I keep looking at different cars during school when I should probably be focusing on school itself. You guys/girls have A LOT more experiance than me and know what you're talking about. I just need to learn, haha.

When is a good time to get a new car? How long should I wait?

Re: Hello, I'm new. I need some advice as well.

id wait till you have atleast out of high school, high school makes it to easy to be pure pressured into doing stupid things in cars or trying to show off. Once you get outa high school and you dont have the group pure pressure mentality, then i would say its safe to get something with a little more kick.

Re: Hello, I'm new. I need some advice as well.

trust me man, heed the advice of these guys... they know thier stuff, most of the members on here are some what my surrigate car family. i was just like you when i found this board. i was like sixteen and driving a 1994 ford ranger 4cyl fivespeed. it was "lightning fast". but i found this place and asked them all for advice and they told me to take it easy for a while and learn about my car and cars in general so i did and i suggest you do the same. just for now relax and enjoy highschool and those kids who's mommy and daddy buy "fancy" cars deserve the shit that comes to them once they're out in the big world. but in anycase, heed the senior members advice my friend... and if you're lookin to learn about cars heres a great place to start.
www.howstuffworks.com
this place will give you everything you need to know about basic car stuff to get an idea of what to do with your car. but welcome to the board, stay safe and dont go gettin anymore tickets youngin'
