Air Intakes????Any good ones???

What kind of luck has anyone had with after market air intakes systems? I have a 2001 6.0 3/4 ton and am looking for a good air intake system.

I have a K&N FIPK kit on my 4.8. I like it. Noticable power increase, subtle mpg increase. Most noticable effect was more power when accelerating before downshifting. ie if you're going up a hill you can accelerate for longer in the same gear without having to downshift.

A cheap ebay cai setup will work just as good as a high dollar setup. I've run one for several years with zero problems.

You may already have one of the best air intake setups already on it.
If you have a 6.0 with the HD air filter it should already have a on the road forced cold air intake from grille or fender area and the big AC Delco cylinder type HD air filter.
If you want to save money use what you already have on.

Like MT says, stick with the stock system with an AC-Delco filter. On my '98 Sub 7.4 I've gone through a K&N FIPK (way too noisy and not much to show for it) and a Volant CAI which was quieter but showed no improvement in MPG and performance. Sold 'em both on e-bay and good ridance. Back to stock with the AC-Delco filter and all is good with the 7.4. Last mileage check was 14.7 and when I floor it I don't have to plug my ears (FIPK), it just goes.............Steve

Thanks for the info. I looked at my intake and it is the square type air filter,in fact it looks just like the stock setup on my 99 Z71 w/5.3. And my truck is the 2500HD,was the cylinder type air filter an option?

May be but I see them on some of them more on the larger trucks with bigger engines and 4W.
But either way you still already have a forced on road cold air intake.
Take a look at where the air intake already is.
Strange as it may be a large intake pipe or filter may not help much and sometimes goes the other way.
Most air in restriction is at the butterfly in TB.
To get much more air in you will need a blower or turbo charger.

You know, I have often wondered if the whole air intake thing is not what it is cut out to be. I installed an Airaid system, along with a True Flow filter and am not sure if I really benefitted from the change from stock. I have looked at all of the numbers for horsepower gain, and they are way up at well above 5000 rpms. I am not sure if my engine has ever even been close to that. So, I have this feeling that unless you are drag racing (Slow?), you do not benefit from any real improvement over stock. Any one believe the same? It seems to me that stock is a lot better than it used to be and that there are no real noticeable improvements unless you really get to the guts of the engine.

Your right all the tests that I've seen show the HP gains well over the RPM's that an everyday driver would see. The average RPM my truck see's is around 2000 going down the highway.
