Engine light won't go off

A couple days ago my engine light came on. I checked the manual and it said to make sure the fuel cap was tight. Mine was not so I tightened it. The manual said that it would take at least 3 drives for the light to go off. Well, I took my three drives (14 miles each) plus a couple short trips and it's still on. I don't have a Honda dealer close to take it to and my mechanic who just did an oil change yesterday didn't see anything wrong. Anyone have this happen before and know how to fix it??

Re: Engine light won't go off

its not always the gas cap that can trigger the lite. Believe it or not there is over 50 codes that will turn that lite on. The best thing is to have someone pull the code and let us know what it was maybe then i can help you better.

Re: Engine light won't go off

WHat year? There are three things that i normaly see with oddity check engine lights.
1) P1456-Evap leak tank system, loose gas cap or the two-way valve
2) Can't remebr the code now for some reason, but an EGR code. There was a warrenty extension on the newer gen oddity's say 98 or 97 and up
3) P0700-Trans code, P0740-TC clutch lockup. Transmission time.

Re: Engine light won't go off

the code is a p0401 or p 1491, both are for the egr update, covered up to 8 years or 80,000 miles....or the dreaded trans code...

Re: Engine light won't go off

been there done that. I got a really good day before the hurricanes hit. Upsold two accord timing belts on top of 30k for one and 7500 for another. Then get reboots for and front pads, front mount, sway bar buchings, and a fuel induction service. Did somebody call the gravey train?

Re: Engine light won't go off

Is there a sequence I can run on a 97 Odyssey to try and clear the Check Engine light myself? Or is it stuck on until the dealership clears it?
