my first gasket - a milestone in my automotive life

dudes -
i've never applied gasket sealant to a gasket. i went with the type that looks like a little bottle of rubber cement instead of the spray can type or the model glue format. i'll be doing the thermostat, water pump, throttle body and egr spacer.
anyone got a tips for me or horror stories about the time that they messed up.

Re: my first gasket - a milestone in my automotive life

Start with the t-stat, its the easiest. Just be sure when you are putting it back on that the gasket doesnt slide down. There should be a groove that the gasket will sit in. If it doesnt sit in that groove it will leak.

So did you buy the brown permatex gasket sealer? If so thats some good stuff. Let it tack up a little and it will really help to hold your gaskets in place during re-assembly.

For the waterpump you can slide a few bolts in the holes to keep the gasket straight. The t-body and egr spacer are simple and shouldnt even need any sealer.
