3.1 conversion

i got a 90 cav with a 2.2L and a 5sp. i want to put in the 3.1. how much stuff do i have to change over? i want to use my stock cluster if possible (it only has a speed and fuel gauge, the rest is idiot lights. i plan on putting in aftermarket gauges). I know i will need the engine harness and the ecu, obviously the motor and mounts. what else will i need?

will i be able to use my stock 5-sp?

Re: 3.1 conversion

i'm replacing the headgasket on my 2.2 right now. i dont have a 3.1 yet, but there is a salvage yard in my county that actually deals in decent cars. he is looking to see what he has.

Re: 3.1 conversion

hey shakewell, unlike you, some of us are more of enthusiasts about our cars. some of us want more, for things like track racing, or more spirited street driving. of course you prolly dont understand this about fwd cars. i'm sure if someone put a mustang in front of you you'd jump at the chance to drop a 351 or 460 into it, all because its muscle, unlike a lowly cavalier. thing is, cavaliers arent so lowly buddy.

for that, i laugh at you and shake my head.

oh and the moderator can close this thread. i already decided to find a newer wrecked cavy, sunfire and transfer the ecotec and tranny into mine

Re: 3.1 conversion

YES!!!!! finally someone with a real response!!!!!

only problem is i got the tbi system, i need the efi from the 92 and newer first. but i figured i would go the ecotech route. lightweight motor with more power....idk man.

if i could find the stuff to turbo the early 90's efi 2.2, yes hey i would happily go that route
