88 lesabre cranks but don't start
my son drove to the gas station turned the car off and it would not start up. found that the fuel pump fuse kept blowing, replaced oil pressure sensor, coil pack, icm and the crank sensor. Started right up, test drove it to the local coffee shop turned it off and it didn't start again. Cranks but doesn't fire up. I pulled a spark plug off and it's not getting a spark. What would be a good direction to go now????? It's not blowing the fuse now.
Also I forgot to mention that it never showed any codes before or now!!!

Re: 88 lesabre cranks but don't start
Welcome to AF. Could be the crank position sensor if no spark and injector pulse and/or bad connections to the icm from the cps.

Re: 88 lesabre cranks but don't start
How did you align the crank sensor?
I like to check for power getting to the ICM. The pink/black stripe wire should have 12 volts when the key is in the run position. I'd also disconnect the battery cables & check the cable ends for corrosion. |

Now check for power at the pink with black stripe wire. That will help eliminate an ignition switch problem. If you have 12 volts there & no spark then it sounds like either the new crank sensor or ICM crapped out. As Max said you also need to check out the wiring & connections between the crank sensor & ICM. Don't forget to check those battery cables for corrosion. If your car has 2 battery cables that come together in 1 rubber boot then you need to get the boot off to check for corrosion between the cable ends. |

Re: 88 lesabre cranks but don't start
Checked and cleaned the connections on the battery, have power at the icm, put another new crank postition sensor on. bringing the icm to get checked and i'll check the wiring from sensor to the icm.
I appreciate the info you have given me, Thank you. |

Re: 88 lesabre cranks but don't start
I'm totally confused now, had the icm and coil pack tested again, tested fine. Another new cps on, power to the icm. Cleaned the battery terminals and still no spark???? No codes show up so that don't help at all.
Any more suggestions? |

Re: 88 lesabre cranks but don't start
If you can get a scanner on it look for rpms when cranking, also not all the icm tests are accurate. Look for a break in the wires from the cps to the icm, but without knowing if the cps is generates a signal you are going to second guess this.

Re: 88 lesabre cranks but don't start
I finally figured it out.
After replacing the items I found out that it was in the icm connector, a couple of the female terminal connectors were loose. I found out the hard way, I was probing wires in the connector with the spark plug wires of the coil pack and got zapped from the coil. Thanks to all for your info.
