So yeah, I had no idea this even existed. Why hasnt anyone done a swap for it yet?

It's out a of a cedric/gloria/something else.

Re: Quad cam VG30DET

older cima too i think, as well as the leopard and perhaps one other one... it's the fact that Nobody knows about them that they're not really popular, and most people that are doing the DE swap opt for the 300hp more common twin turbo.... i've been tossing around the idea of a 90ish cedric for a DD, as the GT's come with the det, altho i haven't been able to find one in a 5spd yet... still it'd be pretty cool i'd think.

the DE came in the 300zr's which were a VERY limited prod. run, but they never came turbo in them which is a damn shame... most of the zr's you see are in PRISTINE condition tho, which is pretty cool too (one day when i'm rich)

but yeah they're pretty cool engines, aside from the dinky turbo, and the goofy twin entry intake setup... they could be modified, but without TTing it, there would be a lot of fabrication required for the intake setup to be in good working order.

Re: Quad cam VG30DET with Turbo

Yaggus, The VG30DET Turbo conversion has been completed by Ivan in Winchester, VA area in an 88 Shiro edition and possibly by others. The block is imported by ZFever.com in Florida and is extremely FAST. These engines were used in Cima's and Cedric's in Japan, were never imported in a completed vehicle. I believe the single turbo engines had ceramic fins, the engine had 2 throttle bodies and the output was around 400 Hp. The Quad Cam engine was a popular race version in Australia and Japan racing circles.

the vg30det in its stock form produced 222-255hp, and 198-236ftlbs with an N1 T3 turbo... which is definitely NOT capable of 400hp

again it was used in the Cima, Cedric, Gloria and Leopard

Yeah anything in a Y31 shell it was capable of being in. I wasnt sure what other changes there were to the VG30det quad other than the quad part of it. like internals and shit. The VG30DETT is probably better, but I was just wondering exactly what parts of it make it better, other than an extra turbo. Soif you take out the turbo part of the equation. What else make it better?

Re: Quad cam VG30DET

I would assume the internals are the same or similar, however i can't find any reliable evidence to back this up, perhaps if you can find someone who has done the swap will know more and can further fill you in...

just to clarify, the t3 turbo isn't capable of the 400hp, the engine surely is with the right modifications however.. probably capable on stock fuel if it's similar to the dett.

Re: Quad cam VG30DET

umm....why? there is a quad cam VG30DETT which is more readily available and parts at the click of a mouse.

but yeah...i wonder how good the exhaust manifolds flow on it. wonder if it flows well enough to support GT35 series turbo. mmm...doubt it.

what makes it better is probably an aftermarket with an array full of bolt on goodies...which means cost effectiveness for the majority of street car modifiers.

id like more details on the manifolds and oil pan...single turbo converted Z32 has potential for certain things. single TB'ed upper plenum would make it that much sweeter.

Re: Quad cam VG30DET

what do you mean how well the exhaust manifolds flow? the stock z31t mani's are good to ~700hp apparently, which is way more than most will make, so i'm sure those mani's won't have any trouble flowing power... the only trouble would be fitting the larger turbo in there...

i'm thinking the only real difference for the aftermarket support would be the manifolds... there's a MUCH MUCH larger base for single turbos, and they're way fucking cheaper than twins, but i doubt there's a good set of exhaust mani's for it... and there isn't really anything for the intake plenums, aside from the extrude honed one in the first place, so no real difference there either.... and if need be you could always use the stock Y pipe from the DET to split into the 2 inlet dett plenum.

it would be interesting to see if there are many/any internal differences between the two engines.

well, i guess not exactly not how much they will flow, i guess how efficient they will flow it. the stock manifolds on the VG30DETT will support 600rwhp im sure, but if you go with something better and more free flowing you could probably see a huge gain just because of the restrictiveness. id be interested to see VG30ET with stock manifolds and larger turbo and then a comparison with the a simple manifolds change being the only modification at the same boost level. i bet the power curve would look alot better, spool up would be extremely better, and there would be a very nice gain in peak numbers also.

that Y pipe would be easy to replicate...i think a well designed single turbo, single TB VG30DE would bring performance to new levels in the Z32 market.
