2003 Odyssey oil question....
I have a 2003 Odyssey that the owners manual states uses 5w 20 wt oil. I would like to use synthetic, but the oil I have is 5w 30. I live in Florida, so I didn't think the 5w 30 would harm anything. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: 2003 Odyssey oil question....
I'd stick with the manufacturers recommendations on oil viscosity. Modern engines are designed with an expected oil quality and viscosity in mind.
The 5w20 will be thinner when hot than the 5w30, and the clearances were designed with an expected 20w oil. Mobil 1 comes in 5w20, so you can use synthetics if you want. Other oil companies also make that grade (Amsoil, Castrol, etc). You may be fine, but I wouldn't chance it....just my thoughts...Glen |
