Opel DTM
Built this in one day! Well, it felt like it. I did the body and wheels/tires about a year ago for a decal demo at the last TamiyaCon. Gotta admit, it goes together quite well. And the Tamiya lacquers dry really fast when you put them on lightly. I think I'll have to do another and take my time... - Mark

Mark, great job on this one. Since I might not ever make it to a Tamiyacon, what exactly is the demonstration you put on? Are you showing techniques or what products do what? Mike. |

Re: Opel DTM
1 day! (almost) Incredible! I don't know about you Mark, but during large projects I occasionally need to finish something else to keep the motivation high. Was this one of those projects?

Re: Opel DTM
Thanks everyone!
Prefinished body? Never! Oh the indignation... Seriously, I build, (not buy), there's no joy in assembling someone else's work for me. At the TamiyaCon's I usually do a couple one hour demonstrations/hands on seminars and try to involve the audience with a question and answer format. Every year one of the demos is about decaling, especially the more complicated subjects. In the past I have decaled live in front of an audience, the Nismo Nissans, a Jacs Accord, Repsol RC211s, this Opel, a couple Original Tiele Mercedes, whatever had deals that were giving consumers difficulties. I also do demos on weathering, shading, repairing mistakes and mishaps, painting, fixing paint problems, etc. It's more a matter of showing my techniques using Tamiya's products. About the only thing I use during them that is not a Tamiya product is the Gunze Mr. Mark Softer decal solvent. Well, it was a nice break when I was building the Blue 7 to paint and decal this. But finishing it was more like a treat to throw something together for the sheer fun of building. While it only took a day to finish it, several days of the hard work went into it earlier. And having everything very dry help the speedy build too. Now on to another "pre-finished by me" build. I have to finish some of the dozen things I have under construction so I can start something new... |

Re: Opel DTM
Great job. I love these DTM cars and they build up into a great looking kit. You have done this one proud and in almost a day....

I saw the body and it looked like the doors didn't open, which was a part of the pre-painted kit, hence me asking. Sorry that asking questions is apparently not allowed. I did not mean any harm in it. |

Re: Opel DTM
That's interesting, did not know the doors on the pre-finished didn't open.
These do open and close, and when closed they fit quite well, Tamiya engineering, not anything I did. When opening, they are a bit fiddley, but with the metal hinges it is not a bad arrangement overall. I think it is a bit of a gimmick for this kit, but I actually like it since it does not hinder other aspects of the model... - Mark |

Re: Opel DTM
This one was probably 10-15% complete by parts count, and around 60-75% done by effort needed. Get to it Mike, it won't build itself... - Mark
