3.0L Duratec Boring and Stroking

Are there any forged pistons and rods for the 3.0L Duratec? I'm also looking for a stroker kit. Thanks

Stop asking questions here. Go to either contour.org or newcougar.org. Or better yet go to both. There is only one person on this forum that will be any help to you. It sure isn't me. Not that I don't want to help you it is more the fact I don't know the answers. Beyondloadedse knows his stuff but there are a bunch of people on CEG (contour.org) and NECO (newcougar.org) that know just as much as him.

You can go ahead and keep asking questions here. Doing this you will only be tapping into the knowledge of one cdw27(the platform of the cougar, contour, mystique and mondeo.) expert. If you go to ceg and neco you will be tapping into the knowledge of a dozen or more cdw27 experts.

Re: 3.0L Duratec Boring and Stroking

See the FAQ I wrote on contour.org and scroll down to where it says, "Who makes forged internals for this car?"

http://www.contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?t=7677

As for a stroker crank, no. If a stroker was produced, the crank alone would probably cost $3000+. Not to mention, youll have custom rods made unlike the "off the counter" forged rods in the link I provided above. Not only that, but youll have to sacrifice some of that nice top end power due to a shorter stroke. Its really not worth it. Not even the 7 sec drag cougar uses a stroker motor if that tells you anything.

If your next question is, can I bore the cylinders of 3.0L bigger? The short answer is no. The water jackets are too close to gain any significant hp from increasing the displacement. A cougar guy on NECO did bore his to a 3.2L but honestly, the gains are minimal and could be better well spent on a set of high compression pistons.

If you are feeling lucky, you could buy a fully built 3.0L duratec from 1gracing who build the motors for the 400 hp turbocharged Noble M400. Cost is right around $4300.

Cougar4life is right. You honestly should join the cougar or the contour forums. TONS of information and questions like this are covered in the FAQs since they get asked so many times. Theres tons of knowledgebase on either forum since old timers like myself have seen every aftermarket part come into existence or be discontinued since the vehicle was made.

Thanks for the info. I think I've got everything I need to inteligently post questions on the cougar forums. But I may wait until I actually get a cougar. Thanks BeyondLoadedSE for all the info.

Actually you would need to contact AER in Carrolton TX for the engine. $4300 plus shipping bring it to $5K. 1G could sell you the track baffle high capacity oil pan though. That's balanced, blueprinted, and upgraded internals with the twin turbos (T-28s) and should get 425 crank with a tune. A full list of engine buildups over the stock motor are detailed on the Noble forum. http://www.nobleforums.com/

Oh cool! Are you a Noble owner? I'd love to eventually buy one since I love the 3.0L duratec motor, but it drives the wrong wheels on a Contour. Do you know gotapex? He frequents the contour forums quite a bit.

Yes, a 3R chassis #54... just prior to M400 release. DOH!!! I see gotapex on the noble forums regularly. Go drive one at 1G and you'll be hooked. Amazing cars and tons of fun... the Duratec is a solid power plant.
