Shot in the dark.........

Since there is nobody in the tempo forums I will try here. My 2.3L when it gets hot will die like it is not getting any fuel and then not start until it cools off. Now I know they are front and rear wheel drive versions but there has to be some similarities. Now the fuel pump is new and so is the filter, and i replaced the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs and still no luck. Any advice would be great.

Sounds like a similiar problem I was able to cure by changing the engine coolant temperature sender. You can check by probin the resistance through the sensor at different temperatures. Haynes manuals have the proceedure.

The 2.3L (OHV) engine in the Tempo is not related to the 2.3L (OHC) engine in Ranger...or any other 2.3L Ford-powered vehicle. The Tempo engine is related to the 3.3L L6 that was offered in various vehicles.

Re: Shot in the dark.........

How hot is it where you live?
I had a Ford that used to overheat the fuel line and cause it to vapor lock in in the summer months. I installed a "racing" fuel pump. It was pretty loud, but it worked. For good measure, I put some heat shield stuff from the hot rod shop over the fuel line in the engine compartment. It never vapor locked on me again.

may or may not be your problem. Good luck with that-

Re: Shot in the dark.........

did you do a pressure test on the fuel line to see if its getting the fuel there or not??
had that same type of problem wayy back with mine. ened up being something in the distributor that was the problem. got a new one and it was all good after that. cost a bit but still worth it.
