wifi house

just a simple (hopefully) question.

in the UK, the slow phasing out of analogue tv signals has meant that it's probably a good time to buy a new telly and I've got my eye on a 32 inch lcd.
that's not the problem.

thing is, I've got it in my head that i'd like to occasionally sit on my sofa with my keyboard and mouse (and graphics tab) and work off the 32" telly.
question is, what do I need on the TV end of the set up?
Is it even possible to do what I want?
(pc in another room - wireless to lcd display in another)
or do I need to physically connect the pc to lcd via dvi cable?

Re: wifi house

To my knowledge what you want to do is not possible...yet. You will need to physically connect the computer to the tv.

Re: wifi house

never seen any kind of wireless adapter for graphic/visual devices. never heard of this being done. you'd need to connect your computer to your TV's aux socket and use the remote to switch between TV and PC imput.

Re: wifi house

You might look into something like this, it's just an example there are others to choose from, you'll just need a video card that will connect to the transmitter (typical TV interface):

Re: wifi house

Very much, newegg has one for like $50USD that uses RCAs, you could get an RCA splitter for sound from the computer etc. But I see no problem with what you want to do.

Hate to break it to you, but that's not going to help him unless he has another TV in the room with the computer that can transmit the signal to the other TV. He wants to go from computer to TV through direct wireless signal. That device does not have the correct adapters from what I can see.

jtvyper456 post a link to the product you think would work.

Re: wifi house

so the display/monitor signal can be sent just like a tv signal?
cheers all, at least now I have a lead on what to look for and what questions to ask.

Re: wifi house

that's kind of the thing i've seen before but wasn't entirely sure how they work or what they do (description always seems a bit vague) but if it can stream video from pc to tv then it sounds like it's the jobbie for me.
I mean, unless there is something "special" about a monitor's display signal, then it should work, right?

Re: wifi house

find a stockist and see if you can get it on a trial basis. don't want to spend that much and find out it's not the right thing.

Re: wifi house

well... thing is, I've got a project coming up where the client kind of wants something like this as well (access pc from any room in the property on the tvs in each room) so i can probably write this off as project expenses.
if this works, I don't have to hire someone to wire the house like an office and just buy a box per tv/display and allows more freedom than physical wiring.

Re: wifi house

write it off as a business expense?

i like that idea.. go for it.

my friend has 3 camera, 17 lenses (shared with his step-brother) and 4 computers bought tax-free because they're for the business. (he does photo/video editing for his company)

Not exactly, you'll need a video card that puts out a TV signal. A video card with a RCA style video jack would probably be compatible with most of the wireless TV link systems that you'll see. Mix that with one of those $5 adapters that converts headphone jacks to rca jacks and you be able to transmit sound as well. Some of the wireless TV links, such as the one in the link I posted also relay infrared signals, so they might work with a wireless mouse and/or keyboard. If I were to get one I'd probably not get the one in the link I posted though, looks like it got some bad reviews.

Re: wifi house

hmm.

sounds like with some audio cabling (easy enough to get from Maplins) and a video card with a co-axial output you're all set.
