What should i do
Hello ,
this is the first forum i have joined and thought id tell the position i am in at the moment.. i have a 95 Mustang it has a v6 in it and i recently bought a 88' ford Pickup fuel injected 5.0. It has the brain and harness. Me and my dad were going to make it caburated with intake carb and i was also gonna put a cam in it. ( we were going to do this because we dont know if the harness will work). BUT i have been thinking. Is it better to just buy a gt with the 5.0 already in it ? I like the 89' body style so i am thinking of that one. anyway well thought id share my story.. any advice would be appreciated thanks for reading |

Re: What should i do
I put a 351w in a 4cyl mustang. The 5.0/5.8 motors will fit right in, but there is alot of work to be done. If you want to go carb'd there is alot of work to do with that swap as well. Its really not that bad, you just need to research it and make sure you can go thrue with it from start to finish before you start tearing stuff apart. If you kept the truck 5.0 stock and transfered all the wiring harness/computer stuff then I dont see why it wouldnt work. But, you would probably be better off to buy a 5.0 wiring harness aas well as the rest of the fuel injection stuff for the SN95 cars if you where to go EFI. Your best bet would be to buy a 5.0 car in good condition and go from there. But also know that with the stock E7 heads on the 87-93 mustangs a cam change will give very little power. You would be better off to do a heads/cam/intake swap to pick up some power. But if you get too carried away (like I did) you will have to upgrade your shortblock, trans, driveshaft, rearend, suspension, and eventually your whole chassis. Take a look at my build threads (you can find them by searching). Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: What should i do
350hp at the crank is not too hard to get. You could do that with a decent set of heads, aftermarket intake, and higher ratio rocker arms. Just FYI, 1987-1993 is the same body style. There was of course the GT, GT vert, LX hatchback, LX coupe, and LX vert models produced in that era. The LX coupe is the lightest version, the GT is the "top of the line" except for the 1993 Cobra which was a modified GT. The Cobra basically had a GT-40 package. Also in that era there where 2 styles of EFI management available. The 87-88 cars where speed density, while the 89-93 cars where mass air flow. The MAF cars accept mods easier than the SD cars. If you where to stick with EFI and wanted 350bhp then I would suggest you look for a 89-93 5.0 car.

Re: What should i do
If you want 350bhp spend your money wisely. Buy a new set of AFR 165cc heads for a sbf. Get some Cobra 1.72 ratio rocker arms. Then top it off with a Trick flow track heat or Edelbrock RPM II intake. Then of course add your exhaust and gears. Get a dyno tune and call it a done deal. In my personal opinion you dont have to upgrade your throttle body ect for 350hp. You would however probably need to upgrade from the stock 19lb injectors to 24lb injectors.
