LSD questions.....

alright, i grabbed an LSD from a junkyard awhile back, don't ask how i got it. but the guy told me it would be ok for a 180. i just took off my stock diff and compared it to the new one and i found 2 differences...

first off, i measured the distance from the end of the flanges going to each wheels and the stock diff was about a half an inch longer than the new diff

second, the holes for the bolts that hold the diff upward on the stock diff are a half an inch wide, where the holes on the new one are 1 1/2 wide.

i take it i grabbed an lsd for an S14 or something, i figured i could change the internals but i'm having no luck pulling the flanges out of the diffs. if anyone could help me out i'd appreciate it. let me know what i have to do to make it work, either jimmy rig the new one to fit on there or how to swap the internals if that's possible, or should i just sell the new diff and go buy a lsd for a 180.

hope u guys can help out.....

It would help if you actually gave us information as to what year/model car that LSD came from. Are you in Japan or Australia? Or are you in the US and listing your car as a 180SX just to sound cool? No offense, but if you're in the US call your car a 240SX, because thats what it is.. unless you imported a 180SX.

Find out more info about the LSD you are using. Since my car is not going turbo, I kept the stock gearing on the LSD by going with a Z32 NA LSD and used J30 axles. You have to swap the rear cover to bolt onto the rear cross member.

The J30 diff also works, but has a different gear ratio which makes take-offs slower (better for turbo applications) and gives you more top-end. Also, the J30 LSD has the ABS sensor on the nose where the driveshaft connects.. this takes about 1", most people use the ABS 240SX driveshaft to compensate for the space since that driveshaft is shorter (if I am right.. this is all off of memory).

ABS sensors is not a concern with the Z32 LSD as they are placed on the output shafts.

sorry, the guy at the junkyard already had the diff off of the car and said it would work on a 180, which is the reason i got it. i have a feeling it came off of a S14 but i can't tell until i roll under an S14 and compare the two.

i am in the states and i don't give a damn, my car is a 180, when u grow up in japan and everytime u see that car, u say that's a nice 180. when i came here, i saw it and said that's a nice 180 and i'm not gonna change for anyone. plus my car is not considered a 240 anymore since i got rid of the 2.4 litre engine, but if that's the case it's not a 180 cuz i don't have the 1.8 litre CA. i'm just not gonna call my car a 240. not to sound like a dick or anything

i do appreciate the help

hey its all good brotha, I've been there. I've called my car an RPS13 because I said "oh I've got the newer 96-98 tail lights and am going SR" but guess what, that was 3-4 years ago and I never did get around to doing the SR.

Maybe you'll change, maybe you wont.. it doesnt bother me though. After a while, you'll start to piss others off on the Internet and sound stupid when talking because you'll refer to YOUR car as a 180SX when its really a 240SX w/ an SR20DET. Regardless of what you do, the car will always be a 240SX because its LHD and it was made for the USDM.

I'm not trying to sound like a dick, I'm just giving you my perspective. Regardless of where you live(d) and where you were born, you have to understand that there are different markets for different parts of the world:

USDM vs JDM:
Lexus SC - Toyota Soarer
240SX Coupe - Silvia
240SX Hatch - 180SX (and in Europe 200SX)
Lexus GS - Toyota Aristo

ps: Dont give into Trend, be proud to call your car what it is fucker!
