Talladega Nights

I know you guys don't want to get a movie review or anything, and thats not what this thread is about...

All I am wondering is:

Doesn't this movie seem like a foreshadowing of Juan Montoya coming to Nascar...

Re: Talladega Nights

There was sort of the same hoopla when Jeff Gordon came in. He was the Yankee sissy-boy. My dad still calls him "Pretty Boy" rather than any portion of his name. Although he does root for Jeff Gordon over any Rousch driver (last among Chevys, first among Fords).

Re: Talladega Nights

Don't see Montoya being much of dominant factor at all. First of all, nobody is going to cut him any slack as arookie (example Homestead's "accidental" run in with Newam). Secondly, a similar hoopla, not as big obviously, was made when Paul Tracy was "making the switch", nothing has materialised there.

The only way I see him being a pary spoiling threat down the road: the car of tommorrow.

Re: Talladega Nights

I enjoyed the movie but I do somewhat hate it because they're calling JP gay.

That aside.

Re: Talladega Nights

oh well.... anyway its still strange to see a foreiner in NASCAR. I dopn't think theres any (not that I really have read every drivers bio and seen for myself anyway).

Well good luck to him... Gordon ought to give him a run for his money unless he will be in the lower leagues to start out?

Re: Talladega Nights

Nope, he ran a few Busch races last year to get his feet wet, and then ran the finale at Homestead in a cup car. Ryan Newman baptised him into the wonderful world of stock car wrecks. Hate to see what happens when the 42 rubs the 20 the wrong way. now that will get interesting. I think I'm gonna go research what kind of history those two have in the open wheel ranks.

Not too weird having a foreign driver, when you now have Toyota in the series as a contending manufacturer.
