99 neon srt, fuel problem/humming noise

i've had this car a little over a year and it only has 51000 original miles on it. the problem is as of a few months ago, whenever my gas tank is at 1/4 my car makes a whirling/humming noise. it happens when at startup and when i'm driving. as soon as i put gas in it, the noise stops. now it's starting to happen at closer to 1/2 a tank. has anyone had this problem or do you have any advice on what i can do? thanks

I have this same problem in my 98 neon right now did you fiqure out the problem?

Sounds like the fuel pump is not fully submerged and is trying to overheat, have someone listen by the fuel tank to see if that is where the noise is coming from.
