Accidently dropped to 1st on hwy

Was on the highway and dropped my car in nuetrul doing about 80 and went to pop it in 3rd when I accidently put it in 1st. The RPMS went out of control, and about 2-3 seconds it was in 1st gear until i was able to prop in back in nuetrul.

I get back home, let the car sit (3000gt vr4) for a couple minutes, then shut it off. I then go to turn it back on and it doesnt turn on. I have a battery box charger, and installed it on the battery, and the car fired up.

Inside the car however, its shaking like crazy. What could have occured and did i blow out the alternator or something for me to have to use cables to start it back up? engine isnt smoking, no discolored smoke from exhaust....Any input would be much appreciated.

well I think your alternator charging runs on your rpms of course this could be total crap but I think you might have blown it or your battery is just old and finally had it. I dunno also but if the car jerked when you put it into first couldve messed something up in your alignment or suspension for it to shake like that...dont take me for %100 but it least its a reply

in the very rare case that you didnt mess up anything else in the engine, i still dont see how a dead alternator could kill it that easily. your battery still stores electricity without the alternator.
unless you killed the alternator and the battery in one fell swoop, i'm guessing that there is something else wrong.

Check the fuses, if the revs went through the roof, the alternator might have put too much current through the system.

thats more or less what i was thinking.
isnt there some kind of overload protection on the alternator.
it could also be the rectifier on the alternator was fried, giving the car AC instead of DC.
not sure what the consequences would be of AC power tho.
