Re: 1983 regal v6 to v8 swap questions
The engines will swap straight out pretty much. You need to either keep the frame mounts from the camaro or buy new ones (cheap and good insurance). You'll have to remove the b.o.p. mounts and use the other set of holes for the chev. mount. You'll have to re-route some wires because of the different locations of the starter and front accessories. If your old tranny is a overdrive the driveshafts and tranny mounts will all be the same. If not, you will either have to move the tranny mount backwards and drill some new holes or make a plate to adjust the mount position to fit the new longer tranny. You'll also need to get about a 3 inch shorter driveshaft (if i remember right). I used one out of a '78 Firebird. If you have any other specific questions let me know. I did a couple of these swaps on and '87 Cutlass and an '83 Cutlass a few years ago. Still have the '83, it's got a 75,000 mile combination from a '76 C20 2wd (350/350th) that'll roast the tires all day long.

Re: 1983 regal v6 to v8 swap questions
I know this is an older thread but a quicker & cheaper swap is to use a Buick V8 350 instead. There is no wire or fuel line relocating and you can use the same frame pads and motor mounts that are in there now. Also, all of the accessories on your V6 will bolt on to the V8 like the Alt, AC, power steering, starter, etc. You can also use the 700r4 with a trans adapter plate or just keep the tranny you have now. It will bolt to the V8 with no adjustments. If you did go with the 700r4 you would most likely want to consider a rear end swap as well. Your current gear ratio (2.56 or 2.41:1) would be a dog with that transmission. A 3.23 or 3.42 would work better. And one more thing to consider, the Buick V8 puts out more low end torque than a Chevy motor.
Do what you want, these are just my opinions. MARK
