Good Car For Parents w/ Small Children
My wife and I are expecting our first child in September. I currently drive a 1996 Honda Civic HX 2-door and she drives a 2005 Honda Pilot. I know I'm going to have to replace my car because it won't be easy getting a small child in and out of the back seat of my car. I was looking for suggestions of a good 4-door car to purchase for someone in my situation. Since my wife drives a Pilot, we're pretty well set in the SUV department...that's why I'm more interested in a 4-door car, preferably used because I don't want to break the bank. Also, I know it's not politically correct to say, but I also am more apt to buy a foreign car.
I would welcome any suggestions that you folks might have. Thanks!! |

Take a look at the Camry. It has anchors in the backseat for car seats.
You can also look at the Nissan Altima. |

Camry or Accord
Both have excellent reliability and are significantly larger then your civic.

Accord great for children. I recently picked this car up and love it. Plenty of room to get the children in and out of their car seats. You are a Honda owner so you know the reliability and safety that comes standard with these vehicles. |

Re: Good Car For Parents w/ Small Children
Thanks for the suggestions!! I knew this would be a great place for advice.
Just curious...what are everyone's thoughts on the Mazda 6?? I've always thought they were a little more sporty looking than the Accords or Camrys. I'm not very familiar with their reliability...and reliability will be a huge factor in helping me make a decision, especially because I'm most likely going to buy a used car. I don't want folks to get the wrong idea...the sportiness of my next car won't be a huge factor in my decision, it's just that IMO the Mazda 6's are a little more sleek and attractive to someone (like me) that is still getting used to the idea of having a family car. |

Re: Good Car For Parents w/ Small Children
When I was in the market for an new car for my wife last year we were torn between the Mazda 6 and the 2006 VW Jetta. We decided to go with the Jetta because of the lease option was more appealing. Although I do like the styling of the 6, the VW was a better overall vehicle with higher crash test ratings. I am disappointed with the speed of the VW, not enough pick up for me. If I had to choose again I might pick the GLI or the passat. The Honda I had purchased 4 months ago is perfect all around. The pick up is amazing I opted for the V6 model with the leather interior I couldn't be happier. I recommend you visit each dealer in one day and take good notes
