Today (3-6-07) in Stock Car Racing History.
March 6th, 1988: Rockingham, NC: 23 lead changes among 9 drivers, 7 cautions for 40 laps. Pole Winner: Bill Elliott at 146.612 mph.
![]() But when the dust had settled Neil Bonnett, (started 30th, Pontiac, race avg at 120.159,) had edged Lake Speed by less than a second. Here's my build of my friend Neil's winning ride. Can you tell me what is the glaring error on this model is? |

bhop73, if you look very closely in the center of the pictue you will find the model. LOL Actually the whole thing is a model. Well, I can't really take credit for the diecast Coke sign or the pine trees, but I built everything else. Thanks Dave5.0 glad you liked it

Neil ran that season on the new Hoosier tire. I didn't have any of the dry transfer decals so I just painted the "Goodyear" on the kit tires.

Re: Today (3-6-07) in Stock Car Racing History.
Did this car,and others, run Hoosiers every race through the entire season? My understanding is that Hoosier at the time,88', was running experimentals and didnt officially get the go ahead in many US racing series (namely SCCA to my knowledge) until 89'. In fact it seems to me that Hoosier didnt get the official nod until 90'. Im an idiot when it comes to stock car, so please prove me wrong.

I'm afraid that I can't take credit for the "weathering" on this one because it's just the natural effects of having been built fifteen or so years ago. That weathering is just natural wear and tear accumulated over the course of time. I take my stuff out and shoot pics and take them to car shows and races so they don't get the "White cotton glove treatment" that a lot of models enjoy. There are no "trailer queens" at Echoes of Thunder, all my "girls" earn their keep. LOL |

21st to mark his first win after being hurt at Charlotte in October of '87. He had to make a green flag stop that put him two laps behind the leaders and he ran them down in the last 175 laps of the event. It was the last one run on the old half mile track as it was reconfigured into a 3/4 mile D-shaped track before the next event. Neil's first win came there and he said that it was really nice to win the last one before they tore the track up to make the changes. |
