2000 regal gse-serve engine light
Service engine light came on after getting gas. I found gas cap on crooked and fixed it. That was over a week ago-light is still on.In the meantime A police officer pointed out to me that besides my windows being to dark,my inspection sticker is 6 months outdated.
I told him that the car is a 2000 and only has 24000 miles-so I really dont drive it much. He let me go. Nontheless Buick dealer said light should go off on its own. It hasnt. Someone said discon the battery. Didnt work. I wanted a Hypertech programmer anyway so I looked for one that reads codes-cant find one for a 2000. Is there some way to reset the computer ,I believe that the cap was the problem because the light came on right after getting gas. Should I get some kind of scan tool? Is there one? Where? Is it possible that there is another problem and the timing of the crooked cap is coincidental? Help!

Re: 2000 regal gse-serve engine light
There should be a scaner for the 2000... My Mitchell says theres one and references it often..
The Dealer may read the codes for free.. they do here. Perhaps not there It also says disconnecting the battery resets the computer and it has to relearn start/run settings. It also says after 10 runs and it doesnt see the codes the light should go off. I just bought a 2000 Buick.. hope I dont have that problem.. Good Luck

Re: 2000 regal gse-serve engine light
Dealer cleared the code for free. I had to drive it 50 miles and was then able to get it inspected. Thats one thing the snow up here is good for-covering an expired inspection sticker. Thanks Brian
