car cover assistance

Ok, so I bought a car cover a while back. 1st problem I noticed was when I took it off after a couple of days, it left what looked like small scratches in the clearcoat. Needless to say I was pissed! However, after a nice wax they disappeared. However I've noticed another problem. On windy days, the cover won't stay on!! It has holes on the two sides (from door to door) so I tie a piece of rope between the two to keep the sides from blowing up from the wind. The problem occurs with the rear end of the vehicle. The cover blows up over the trunk, kinda defeating the purpose of a COVER!! There are no holes on the front or rear of the cover; so I can't use rope like I did for the sides. Is there another solution to this problem? Perhaps a long bungee cord? Problem would be where/how to attach it to the cover. do they make clamps for something like that? If anyone has other suggestions, please post!

Re: car cover assistance

The best car covers are made from a fabric manufactured by Kimberly-Clark called NOAH. The fabric keeps rain out yet allows moisture to breath out from within.

Did you obtain a car specific cover? The cheaper 'Walmart' covers are not that good as far as cut and stability on the vehilce.

But if you are stuck with this car cover. Then get some rope and tie it down to the vehicle.

A good car cover should stay on.

Dust is a problem with all car covers and cars left outside in the elements. Wind will blow dust.

Re: car cover assistance

thanks for the reply. Well I got the best cover that the auto parts store had availiable in stock. It was fairly inexpensive however. I got the one that it said would fit my car. My car is 16'6' long and the cover fits cars up to 18 or 19 feet in length so that's probably why it blows off so much. I thought it better to be a litttle large rather than too small. So far I like what I've seen as far as what it does for keeping the weather off. Obviously it doesn't keep EVERYTHING out, but it seems to keep nearly all the moisture out (it has small holes to breathe). I've also noticed a large decrease in the amount of dust that gets on my car. Without the cover, the car acccumulates a noticeable amount of dust in a few hours. However over a few days there is minimal dust with the cover on. Like I said earlier I have noticed what look like small scratches or smudges after using the cover. However, they seem to wipe off easily.

I guess I'll have to get a large bungee cord to connect the front and rear of the cover to keep them from blowing offf. Only problem with that is there are no holes on those ends. I was wondering if there were any bungee cords that had clamps on the ends rather than hoooks. I'd prefer to not poke holes in the cover.

Thanks again for the response!!
