99 Suburban 5.7 hesitation, loss of power, backfire
Newbie to this forum. I read a lot of posts this past week about the symptoms listed in my title. I was on a trip from Cleveland to Hilton Head Island and I experienced all of these symtoms. I had loss of power going uphill, a hestiation, "popping" or backfiring through the intake. At one point I could only manage 35 MPH on the freeway. I also got a ses light during this time. I made it to a travel plaza gassed up, checked wires, vacuum hoses, etc. SES light went out and all seemed fine for another 250 miles. I made it HHI and the next day the truck would not start. I listened when I turned the key and my normally noisy fuel pump was not pressurizing. I had it towed and the pump & sending unit replaced. The mech said that it was "lean popping" because it was starving for fuel. He added that this condition would cause the ses light to come on. Drove home 784 miles yesterday without a hiccup. No hesitation, plenty of power and no ses light. I just wanted to share this with all of you, because I saw many posts with all of my syptoms. I enjoy doing some repairs myself and will read many posts in the future. Thanks, Joe Sorry if I was a bit wordy. |
