Unhappy 2002 Durango Hood Rust???

OK here we go... The other day I noticed about 4 nipples on my hood (drivers side) all in a straight line about a foot long and 3 inches apart. A closer inspection shows that the paint is spider cracked and something seems to be pushing up from the underside. I popped the hood and there is a hood support brace between the outer and inner hood panels in the exact location of the nipples. A friend of mine looked at this and suspects that the brace is rusting possibly at the weld points. I have an appointment with the dealer on Monday as I am going to see if this is covered under the 5 year corrosion warranty. I am expecting to be screwed but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask. Has anyone else experienced this or am I just lucky?

Re: 2002 Durango Hood Rust???

Benny,

That's a factory defect for sure! DON"T let them tell you otherwise. If they give you lip you can call Chrysler directly and talk to consumer affairs. For myself it's never happen to me on my Durango but then I live in California. If it did then you know it never had/got any rust preventative coating underneath the paint. AGAIN if you get no satisfaction you can creat allot of head ache if you have the time. Always remember you still have the last "say so".
