Stereo Wiring Diagram

I was going to hook up my Sony Xplod stereo when I came across some wires I didn't kow what to do with so I stopped. I found the 12v orange wire and the 2 grounds and the speaker wires but the ignition is a class 2 data system and I don't really know what that means really! I guess I loose all my chimes which I don't care about. Someone said I won't loose my airbags and some say you do.. Basically all I'm asking is does anyone know how to install it properly and do they know what the purple wires do and the grey one... any help would be great! I just don't want to mess any electrical stuff up, thanks!

Welcome to AF SilverBullet69.

It might help to know what year/make/model you are asking about.
Because they are all different through the line of production changes.

Re: Stereo Wiring Diagram

The aftermarked wireing harnes is probably what he needs. More or less, I beleve, plug and play. I put in many aftermarked head units, and this helped me out doing this.Keep this in mind, i am not an expert in wireing, i guess i go the "Easy" way out. I think it can be done with out, just not sure how.

Re: Stereo Wiring Diagram

Ya I guess the make and medel would help.. I have a 2003 Grand Am SE, 2.2L ecotec, I went to best buy and they have the harness for 65 bucks and they told me they wouldn't sell it unless they installed it for 90 bucks, he told me 2 hrs it would take. Just because of the security light and the chimes and the airbag.. I thought that was kinda much so I walked away.. There has to be a way to do it yourself, I've always installed my own decks, this one just has a couple purple wires I dunno about and the whole airbag thing makes me wonder! anyways any help would be great, thanks guys!

Re: Stereo Wiring Diagram

I only hav the 99-01' diagram and thiers no purple wires.
I have this uploaded.... here is that.

Also the guys at Best buy are F of S !
Anyone can hook up the wire harness you just should disconnect the battery.

Also If you have the steering wheel controls then those wont work unless you get the right harness.

This site used to sell them.

BTW air bag wire should not be around the radio connectors. Might see a big yello wire going to the pass side air bag but its not in the same harness at all!

Good Luck

Re: Stereo Wiring Diagram

Hey Man,

I really thought that most all of the GAs had pretty much the same wiring harness. You shouldn't have to worry about the air bag for any reason at all. What would help also would be to know if you have the Monsoon Stereo or not? This lets us know if you have an external amp.

Let us know and maybe I might be able to help you out a little.

Take it easy man,
Jon

Good Luck
Here are some of the harnesses that will work...

Non-Upgraded Stereo
Option 1 http://www.cardomain.com/item/PERGMCO
Option 2 http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCODCGM09
Here is the unit that I used with my 2001 Grand Am which has the upgraded Monsoon Stereo in it
http://www.installer.com/item/displa...php?it=gmrc-01

All these units make installing an aftermarket head-unit really simple. Simply connect one of these wiring harnesses to the aftermarket head-unit's wiring harness (solder and heat shrink suggested) and then plug-n-play.

Let me know if you have anymore questions...

Jon

Yes even back in the early 90's they used an external amp.

All kinds of people used to fouling up good stereos.
Aand when an amp is installed it usually toasts the factory amp

I have got a passive EQ/amp to work, I think it was a jenson 80watt amp/EQ.
Worked realy well in my 93, 96, & 97 GA's w/box & 2 x 12's. But today I dont mess with many stereos.
I much prefer the Plug and play

Re: Stereo Wiring Diagram

Well I looked and I don't see any amp in the back. I looked in the trunk pulled all the carpet back and seen nothing, if that helps at all... So I should be able to hook a amp up no problem huh!?!
