96 Pathfinder - Engine flooding

I have had a persistent engine flooding problem, where the only way to start the car is too mash on the gas pedal and crank the ignition for about 10-20 seconds and finally it will start. I am looking to finally getting this fixed but would like to hear any suggestions on what may be the issue here.

Normally when the car starts its very weak and the RPM's putter down, and if they go down all the way and the engine dies is when I have to press down the gas and crank the ignition, if it does start it sputters around those low rpms for a few seconds then gets going.

This happens in the warm and cold weather.

Possibly anything to do with the fuel injection system?

Re: 96 Pathfinder - Engine flooding

Almost sounds like the opposite problem, that it's not getting gas. Have you replaced the fuel filter recently, or the air filter?

Re: 96 - Engine flooding

Have your ECU error codes scanned so you know what's wrong with it.

Re: 96 - Engine flooding

A 96 Pathfinder has neither a float nor a choke. Nice advice. This is why you should never come here for answers to any real questions. Visit NPORA.

Re: 96 - Engine floodingy

I'm here to help re-direct misinformation and help Pathy owners get the correct info. There are so many Nissan or car-related websites out there, misinformation is rampant. Nothing personal.

Re: 96 - Engine floodingy

I would start by putting a fuel pressure guage on it , and check for injector leak down .. After you run the Truck , shut it off and watch your fuel pressure . At the same time check the pressure , should be around 35 psi.

With injector leak down , can cause hard starts in the am . Fuel leaking into cylinders at a slow pace.. slowly will seep past rings washing them out, so upon cranking , it has to dry out the cylinders and rebuild up compression to start. I would Start by checking injectors.. gl
