Brakes On 3.8 Liter 1999 Windstar

Guys,

Have to replace front brake pads on my 1999 Windstar with 3.8 L engine. Anybody know anything about the Akebono (Part # ACT803) ProAct Ultra Prem Ceramic Pads ? Are these better than original Ford pads ? I can get them for the same price as the dealer chages for the Motorcraft BR1270 semi-matalic pads. Also, what are shims and are they worth getting for my 99 ?

Thanks,

AvalonJohn

I have them on my '96 and they have been great.
Made a little noise at first...but it went away fast.
I have had them on for several years.....and they have held up well.

Shims come with those pads as separate parts. Others like the Wagner Thermoquiets that I used on my Windstar come with the shims and pad in one unit.

Are you referring to the slippers that the pads slide in? Not sure if the Akebono's come with those, the Wagners did.

Here's a pic of the slippers: http://groups.msn.com/FordWindstar/s...oto&PhotoID=46
