Dist Cap / Rotor -looks like crap ?

99 K1500 old body style / Z71 / 5.7

Replaced the cap / rotor in September and last friday went to start it in garage and it popped and sputtered like the timing was off. Dist cap and rotor looked like crap with excessive corrosion and the like. Cleaned them up and all was well. The unit I bought was a quality cap/rotor with brass inserts. The truck is treated very well with only weekend highway miles. No other issues and the truck has always ran exceptionally well. It has been a rough winter here in Illinois with ice storms and the like so maybe the excessive moisture we've had may be an issue but I have not had this with other trucks I have owned.

I remember reading somewhere about a distributor venting system being screwed up on these models but can't remember the fix (either cleaning or sealing up ? ). Any help on fix and specific location of venting location would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Dist Cap / Rotor -looks like crap ?

I have the same problem. Check out my post at http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ht=engine+skip

The vents can be seen with the rotor off. (V6) I blew them out with compressed air. My 1996 does not have vent screens. I am still waiting to see if this has corrected the problem. I'll know better once the spring damp/foggy weather kicks in.

Good luck,
Mark
