How high do these engines rev too? and do the Shut down when the RPMs get too high?

Well it depends on the engine but they mostly go over 7000 rpm. And i can't wait 'till they introduce the airpressure controled valves (like in a F1 engine) then they'll shure go over the 10k mark

My friend told me the rev up to 12-13k

Mazda's RX-Evolve does 12,000 rpm I think. It is defiantely over 10,000.

Actully you are all wrong. The rotors themself, when the tach reads 9,000 RPM, are turning 18,000 RPM. in one of the issues of Super Street, they explained the rotary engines and they are geared down 3:1 at the output shaft so while the tach says one thing, the rotors are going three times faster.

That's right. For every 90degrees the rotors turn the shaft turns 30 degrees...so, when the Tach says 9K, its actually doing 27,000! Incredible!

Wow I never new that, But do the shut off if the revs are too high? Cause I originally didn't belive him cause he said that the boxster had a V8 and did over 200 and the only way to do a burn out on a bike is with bleach

Yeah, sounds like an idiot. I would assume that they wouldn't shut off. But, I wouldn't run one too high...

I dont think they have a limiter but i wouldnt rev them too high. Also i think that they are damaged more by over-heating but im not sure.

We had a xmass party at a engine shop and had to bet how long would a rotary last for at full noise. Well it reved like a jet engine and then it flew apart, bits every where. BTW Psman32 & enzo the rotor does one turn to three output shaft turns, the rotors have a lot of wieght in them about 14 pounds so you don't want to spin them to fast. Less work to overhaul a rotary engine than a piston one. The quickest way to kill a rotary is to trash it when it's cold you got to warm them up before the big rev. Got a mpeg of a RX7 doing a burn out and blowing the motor
and the hood off.
