engine for 2001 cherokee sport

Dealer is asking for $5000 to replace engine that overheated after head gasket failure (scored cylinder wall and chipped piston). They suggest a remanufactered Jasper engine. Anybody put in a V8 or have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Have always heard good things about jasper engines. http://www.jasperengines.com You can go to their site and find price and also locate a local installer if you don't want to do this yourself. Dealers are always very pricey.

I would consider rebuilding it.

1st thing, don't go to the dealer, they sell cars, not service cars that they haven't sold in 6 years.

The four liter was sold in the Wrangler until 2006. The XJ production ended in 2001. All new Jeeps have been re-engineered by Daimler. Notice how the Mercedes products look like Chryslers now. The Dodge products even share Jeep platforms.

The four liter Jeep engine was discontinued because it can no longer meet the emisions and fuel mileage goals of Daimler-Chrysler.

V8 modification is tough, and expensive. For more power, consider one of these engines:
