Subaru Impreza WRC "Fruité" Monte Carlo 99 - Panizzi Bros
Hello all,
Fed up of my Subaru Argentina 99 and all problems and mistakes during the build, I decided to have a break and come back to my white Sub'. ![]() This car should become the one of Achim Mörtl in the 2001 german rally, but I saw at the last moment that his car was a 2000 version ! Then I ordered a decal to build the Panizzi Bros Impreza as raced in the 99 Monte Carlo in which they made a good race almost winning the rally. So here is the model completed; Tamiya 99 sub' with Studio 27 decals and Renaissance 6 spokes Speedline wheels. Painted with tamiya white TS26 and gold (TS??) for wheels. I built it out of the box except harnesses from back of the seats to roll cage, switches on dashboard and valves on the wheels, and as always in my models one nut under each seat to fix the model to its display case with bolts. I still have to add the antennas, I have to scratch the second one (which is a removable antenna) and am still trying to find better views of them to know their exact position. There also another thing "missing" I will have to add to the model, would you notice what...? some general views: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() close up to the rear... ![]() ...the inside... ![]() ![]() ...one of the wheels... ![]() ...and the front ![]() and finally the model in its dispaly case ![]() All comments and critics are very welcome. ![]() Thanks for reading Phil |

Nice and clean. Good to see the Suby in other liveries than good old WRB and yellow.

Hi Phil, superb looking Subaru.Very nicely built.I remember that rally.I watched it on the TV.The Panizzi brothers certainly showed the 'works' teams a thing or two.

Interesting project. I have never seen one of these before. The paint job looks flawless. Great work and nice model to display. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Nicely done model...but you asked what still needs to be added. I think it really deserves to have some panel lines ;-)

Thank you all for your kind comments.

![]() I don't really appreciate panel lines, cos' it's not "real" for me... I explain: on the real car you don't have any black lines between doors or panels, this black line is only a light effect. When you look at a car very close in full light you don't see any panel lines. That's why I don't usually make some on my models. Especially on white cars, if it's not really fine it really could look ugly... some people make panels lines that most look like a entire black panel than a panel line ! ![]() ![]() I don't want that, but I know that a very slight line could give better effect... I tried it on the Mica blue sub', black on dark blue doesn't work bad, but with white I prefer not doing it. maybe a light grey or brown line would works, but I am definitely not a panel lines maker ! ![]() But I still have to improve some skills and get better on some points ![]() So thanks for the notice ![]() PS: What is missing is a real missing part, it's not something about a building appreciation. ![]() the last pic should make you realize it immediately. What's missing? The Subaru badge on the front grill. right? Not sure if the car has it in real life, as I have not seen this one myself... Do I get a prize if I get it right? ![]() Winston |

![]() That's right, Subaru badge is missing as I cut it to firstly build the 2001 german rally version. I am waiting to receive my new sub' kit to take this badge and give it back to Panizzi's car. Mmm for the prize...? All my admiration...?! ![]() Thanks for you kind words. Phil |

Re: Subaru Impreza WRC "Fruité" Monte Carlo 99 - Panizzi Bros
Hi Phil,
Excellent model. I really love the white paint on the Subie. I too have the Mortl Infineon cars on my 'to do' list, and I am a bit worried about getting a nice white paint job on the blue plastic. Can you please give us some more information on the 'nut under the seats'? This sounds like a really good idea, as I guess you could do it to all models as you build them, just in case you ever decide to put them in a display box. Maybe some photos and a bit of a how to? Cheers, Grant. |

thanks for your kind words. ![]() The Infineon Mörtl car is a 2000 car, that means different air intakes of front hood and different front spoiler, but I think you already noticed that, too. I use to put all models in display case to avoid bad surprises in model show... ![]() some like little children ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Nuts and bolts under the seats... Yes why not a How-to or tutorial... I could do that quite easyly if I can find all English words ![]() In a few words: - chassis of the model should be firstly painted. (other wise paint could fill the hole of the nut and its "filtage" (?? is it a correct word in English ? ![]() - I put a nut in place under the seats, fixed against the edges of the seats support, without glueing it. - I drilled a small hole through the nut and the base of the display case. - I take off the nut and adjust the holes to the bolt and nut size on the model and the display case base. - I glue the nut in its place in the model taking much care not to let glue entering the nut. - and then you can fix the model ! (of course if you had well aligned all holes) in the model: ![]() under the model: ![]() ![]() Phil |

Finally a different color scheme, i like it. Would outline the headlights to give it more spice.

Great build Phil. Love a 'non blue' subie.
![]() Missing items - blue triangle electrical kill switch decal next to the extinguisher decal and the Subaru name on the rear side windows. Do I get the same prize as Winston? |

![]() there isn't subaru name on rear window (I was the first surprised) and no electrical security switch on boot. But if you can bring a good proof for sure you will get the same prize. ![]() Thanks for your kind words. MidMazar, You're talking about front lights ? you may be right, I think so,too, but realized that after glueing the part... ![]() Thank you all for your comments and critics. ![]() Phil |

Re: Subaru Impreza WRC "Fruité" Monte Carlo 99 - Panizzi Bros
Hi Phil,
nice model in a different livery ![]() Concerning the nuts under the seat to fix the model in the display box: I do this since I use the boxes. That is a reason, why I usually don´t superdetail the chassis. As voyager said: the model looks a little bit unstructured without panel-lines, and yes, it is too hard to use black on a white car. So I suggest to deepen the panellines with a hobby knife before painting the body, this gives more natural shadow and / or to blacken them before painting the body to enforce the shadow affect (like the preshading of the airplane modellers)
