Re: having problems with 86 crx

The revving could be a vacuum problem, which could also be causing your heater to not work. But, you might want to check all of your water hoses coming out of the motor/firewall while it's running. If the warm water isn't circulating properly, that could be the reason your heater isn't working. I don't know a whole lot about the vacuum system as I have an SI, but my brother might be able to help. I'll point him this way when he gets home.

Re: having problems with 86 crx

Your alternator belt is either worn or loose. You have an air bubble in the coolant system that is causing your heater to blow cold air and causing your idle to surge.

Without more info it's impossible to tell you why there is a bubble in the coolant. It could be a leak, bad heasgasket, bad water pump, bad heater core, or just neglect.

Re: having problems with 86 crx

i had a few idling problems with my 86 si, but not that much sound from the belts...just idling real high. if you check the belts and the vaccum lines and you see no problems, i would go ahead and make sure you dont have a blown intake manifold gasket...i did everything to mine and that seemed to be the only think that was wrong with it.

Re: having problems with 86 crx

If any belt is loose - just tighten it. It is not related to the rest of you story. Either low coolant level or fast idle valve are the most probable cases. Considering your heater problems, most probably just coolant level. Could be a clogged heater core for the heater part, though.
