LT1 Block

So, I am looking at possibly building a LT1 engine up then swapping it into my car. I found an ad for this
"I have a 94 buick roadmaster with a Chevy 350 v8 LT1 that was in a rear end collision in december 05. it ran and drove fine so i drove it for another year and now its time to part with it. Motor is still in car good tranny and diff as well. take the whole thing. it has been parked for a month and now it won't start, i think it's got plugged fuel injectors. I put some marvel mystery oil in the gas tank a few days before it stopped running probably disloged some nasty stuff in the fuel lines. Motor has 215k on it and was pulling real strong sounds great and quiet when running. With that kind of milage you might want to go through it before putting it another vehicle or just replace the seal around the oil pan where it leaks alittle bit. would be awsome in a little S-10 pickup or maybe a datsun Z. "

What do you think? Sound good or is $400 to much for that? I would be doning a full rebuild and then swapping into my car, although it will still be a daily driver.

Re: LT1 Block

you will want to rebuild it, and from what i hear the cast ron LT1 heads also outflow the aluminum ones and at 400$ you cant really go wrong

Re: LT1 Block

Yeah, I would be getting it and rebuilding it. New seals, pistons (for either boost or spray), heads, that type of thing. It would be my first rebuild but my buddy is a mechanic and build the motor/tranny for his chevelle. What all should be replaced? I guess I will tell you the plan first. I want a 400ish hp car, I guess it probably then wont be daily driver but if I can get good gas mileage then I would drive it daily

Re: LT1 Block

LT1's are easy to make power with, id sugest you keep the stock cast heads, like i said they outflow stock aluminum ones, and with some porting they can make some power. run a bigger cam, something like the LT4 cam(wit matching springs) would be a great cam i think, you probaly have to punch it .030over so if you want to spray it youll want to run a flat top forged aluminum piston, upgrade you main and rod bolts to ARP's, run some bigger injectors maybe a 58MM throttle body, and a good tune id say you could probaly hit 400hp

Re: LT1 Block

Lyod is a good guy. I sold 3 or 4 sets of heads to the guy and many people who he did port work for swear by the guy. I also agree on it totally being worth it.
