454 running trouble

1989 454 tbi
starts , runs for 5 sec ? then dies,runs backwards shooting gas out the tbi.
Any clue ??

Does it eventually stay running? If so, then your fuel pump is probably near dead. To avoid a misdiagnosis, however, make sure the basics are covered: Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing, fuel filter, etc. If it is the fuel pump, do NOTHING else but replace it with a GM one. TBI motors eat all other pumps for breakfast.

When you say shooting gas, is that a mist, or a large quantity? Does it run normally for the first 5 seconds? Why do you think it's running backwards? Is there anything else that may give someone a clue what's wrong?
