Pigeon noises
The front left suspension of my 99 v6 2dr accord makes noises as if a pigeon is trapped inside. I'm looking to replace the shocks/springs of the car and lower it a bit, too. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what to buy?
Also, what is the difference between "shocks" and "struts" ?? They look like one and the same thing to me - the thing that goes inside the springs. |

Re: Pigeon noises
This is the first I've ever heard of a rat bird being trapped in someone's wheel well
I'm not sure I understand exactly what type of noise you're talking about. I'm thinking of how a pigeon sounds and I can't relate that to any suspension noise I've ever heard. How far do you want to lower your car? That will pretty much determine what setup is best for you. Shocks and struts serve the same purpose, just in different forms.

Re: Pigeon noises
The pigeon noises emanate when traveling at a slower speed, and especially on slightly bumpy or uneven roads. It sounds like cooing noises like .. "coo .. coo" like pigeons that congregate on rooftops in large numbers and make those sounds like "cwoo cwoot". My car seems to have been involved in a front end collision and repaired, and this event might have had something to do with it. In any case, I am not looking to lower the car THAT much.. just somewhere about 1 inch. I don't want to get a coilover b/c I read those are substantially more expensive, and needed only when the goal is to lower the car a lot.
I want to make the ride a bit stiffer to get rid of that bobbing/water-bed feeling. I also want to make cornering a bit stiffer and more stable so the car doesn't wobble so much. What to get? strut/shocks springs that bar that goes inside the hood and connects the struts? strut bars? |

Re: Pigeon noises
I dunno. Without actually hearing it its kinda hard to tell. I had a cracked strut mount last year and it had my car making some crazy sounds at low speeds. But it was like a loud creaking.
If you just want to drop an inch, get some good lowering springs. But don't expect a drastic difference in cornering, but you will be a bit less wobbly in turns. And you can get a strut bar up front to tighten up your steering also.

Re: Pigeon noises
I know exactly what noise you're talking about. It's Usually a bushing related problem.

Re: Pigeon noises
spray some WD 40 on your upper control arm bushings, this should help with the noise. when we lowered my friends car it was making noise from the bushing from having it lowered and putting more stress on the control arm. put some and bounce it a lil bit to get it enough lube in there.
