97 mustang has problem with gearshift

1997 v6 automatic trans, well the cruise control was not working on the car, after i got underneath the dash i saw a peice disconnected, i plugged it back and and ever since doing so it fixed the cruise control but now makes the gear shift selector hard to move tru the gears, if i disconnect the part of the cruise control its just fine, the part im talking about is on the brake pedel, im gessing there is some adjustment i need to do but im not sre what exactly it is.

Re: 97 mustang has problem with gearshift

I have no clue on this one really. All I know to tell you is to get back under the dash and look for anything obvious. Also follow the shifter cable, maybe while you where under there you got it in a bind somehow? I'm not sure, but if you cant find anything you will probably have to take it to a shop and let them have a go at it. I doubt this is a very comon problem so you probably wont hear much about it here. You can try to google it though.

Re: 97 mustang has problem with gearshift

ok i got around and proof read what i originally posted and realized it made no since...heres what i ment to type

Re: 97 mustang has problem with gearshift

Is the brake pedal adjustable in the '97s?

Re: 97 mustang has problem with gearshift

ok well i finally got around to it and i fixed the problem, the 2 wires going to the brake light switch were broken and brittle, i put new wire and connectors on and plugged it in and now everything is fine with the shifter.
