gas mileage sucks!!!
i have a 2003 accent with just over 22,000 miles on it and over a year and a half ago the gas mileage decreased to the point of jam dropping. the worst we have gotten is 14mpg and the best we have gotten is 20mpg when driving in town. have taken to the dealer 5 times and they cant seem to find anything wrong with it and told me that i must tow things and dont know how to compute gas mileage. hahaha. when i first bought the car we were getting around 30-35mpg in town and around 40mpg on the highway. the car sat for eight months while i went away to school but was started and run by my parents. just had the oil changed last week and the tranny oil is black and smells burnt, the other thing that bothers me. please if anyone has any feedback i would be very greatful.

Re: gas mileage sucks!!!
Maybe the fuel filter or air filter needs to be changed.
(A co-worker of mine has a Ford Escort, and he was getting about 3 mpg because he had a dirty air filter. Yes, three miles to the gallon. )

Re: gas mileage sucks!!!
heres 2 ideas i found for myself.
1. i smelled some gas oneday while doing an oil change. looked at my fuel injector.(96 accent, hatchback) i found the the high pressure fuel line was cracked near the fuel injecter.(looks liek a small aluminum gas line) anyways it was leaking gas while i was driving. couldnt afford to replace it so some good ole jb weld fixed her right up. 2. sounds liek you havnt been driving it because you went of to school a while. try putting 93 grade gas and high octane booster after your tank is practically on empty. this cycles the gas through the engine. in my car the 87 actane gas(cheapest) was good for budget but i found using the 93 grade i was getting more gas milage for only a lil mroe cost. the octane booster helps too. if anything i said helped or you want futher info. ring me at [email protected] with msn messenger. usually after 8pm, just leave a message. |
