95 SL Horrible sound when turning!
So when I turn... the car makes a HORRIBLE sound! It mainly only happens when I turn to the left.. but sometimes it will even happen a little tiney bit driving straight. It doesn't happen when turning to the right.
This is not the famous CV joint snapping sound. It sound like a deep growl, and it shakes the whole car! I looked around under the car, and didn't see anything obvious. The only thing I was able to find was a motor mount with some missing rubber on top. Could that cause that problem? Also... where are all the motor mounts on this car? I could only find 1. It was right on top of the engine on the passenger side of the car.

Re: 95 SL Horrible sound when turning!
it is possable it is your braking system. ie: your indicators for your pads and shaking from your rotors

Re: 95 SL Horrible sound when turning!
You don't indicate weather the niose happens when you are not on the brakes or not. But, it could also be possible that , if the noise happens while not on the brakes and only when turning left, then it could be the right front wheel bearing unitized assembly. When you turn left you load up the right wheel because of weight transfer and inertia. The noise can happen while going straight as well because there is always some load on the vehicle. When you turn right the right wheel load goes down, therefore not making the noise. I had this problem on a Chevy Lumina and an new wheel bearing solved it.
If you are on the brakes and turning and the noise happens, then try replacing the rotors first. Hope this helps. |

Re: 95 SL Horrible sound when turning!
Sorry... the brakes are not an issue. They make no difference rather or not they are on or off.
So you think the bad motor mount is not the problem? |

My friend has the same problem with his Impreza 2.5 RS, I agree, it's probably the bearings, cept he had a screw loose in his rotors but check out that bearing first.

Re: 95 SL Horrible sound when turning!
The bad motor mount would probably cause noise and vibration when the engine is under load from the accelerator. Side to side forces (as when turning) tend not effect the bad motor mounts to a degree that would cause noise and vibration because the motor sits in the engine bay transversly in front drive cars. Under load the motor rocks front to back as opposed to side to side in a rear drive car.
The motor mount could still be bad, but my guess is that the wheel bearing will solve the problem you're describing. |
