P0300 code w/o cause? need help

I just had another engine put into my 2002 Rodeo (2WD - 3.2L V6). I keep getting the P0300 code but the engine runs smoothly, has new plugs, and i checked all of the coils for continuity (they all showed 3k Ohm on my multimeter.) Any ideas? I can't help but think something other than the plugs and coils is causing the code to pop up.

I forgot to mention that the check engine light flashes while accelerating but then stops when the engine is idling or not under load.

what kind of plugs did you put in it? It will toss a flashing CEL if you stick other brands then what it came with.

Yep, the newer Rodeos are really picky about spark plugs.

Re: P0300 code w/o cause? need help

I cleared the codes numerous times and it keeps coming up (I have my own OBDII in the glove box with the Haynes manual.) I searched around a bit and noticed all the talk of the spark plugs so I ordered some of the Denso plugs (the OEM double platinum) from sparkplugs.com. If that doesn't fix it I can't think of anything else. When the engine was replaced, so were all the gaskets plus the guy does good work so I suspect all the sensors were thoroughly cleaned. Just pisses me off that I just got my car back with a low mileage engine thrown in and it runs smooth as butter minus the damn CEL constantly flashing.

Thanks for the help guys - this is definitely a solid forum (unlike some others I've tried to use in the past.)

cheers,

James

poor ground at the intake could cause this thats where the ground is for the Ion module

Re: P0300 code w/o cause? need help

Thanks for all the help guys - I messed with it a bit and turned out to be two things:

1. The mechanic that swapped the engine didn't put the coils on in the right order (namely, the cyclinder #6 specific coil was on cyclinder #2)

2. Wrong plugs - I put some denso's on. The NGK plugs also work (thats what I had on the old engine.)
