Re: What to do
Whats a good budget? Power costs money, there is really no cheap way. There are fast ways to spend your money.

Re: What to do
Building the motor to make big power is one thing. Building the rest of the car to handle it is another. Trust me, I did it backwards lol. I built a motor that made the numbers in my sig on an aborted dyno pull. Now I'm having to build the car up to handle it.
1st: what is the budget? 2nd: how much power do you want to make? 3rd: what do you want to do with the car? (street/strip or what?)

Re: What to do
Man you dont seem to be ready for much power. You want to jump straight to a big inch motor but you dont know how to do it. You want more power than stock but you dont know how much. You can spend as much as you want on it...
Sounds like you need to start with exhaust, gears, and udp's. When thats not enough come back and we'll get into real power.

Re: What to do
When you do the 5-lug conversion I would suggest going to atleast a 31 spline rear axel. It doesnt take a whole lot to snap the stock 28 spline rear axels. With the brakes I would suggest Strange, the tend to have the best bang for the buck. Also for your suspension I would suggest that you not buy the average cheapo non-adjustable ms tube stuff that summit sells. If you want a suspension that works you need to buy from the guys that do this stuff every day. Your suspension can make or break your car, with the right suspension a stock 5spd car can pull a wheelie lol. I would suggest that you look into Team Z or Wolfe racecraft for your suspension needs.
I can tell you that once you get around 500hp at the crank you are looking at splitting the stock block. My suggestion is that you keep the stock shortblock (depending on its mileage and condition), and build around it. Once you want more than maybe a decent street h/c/i combo can give you then look into a small power adder. Once you are ready to turn it up get an aftermarket block and go make some serious power. How much power do you want? 5spd car or auto(aod? c4? pg?)? You really need to be more specific with your information. Just saying your going to change something doesnt help me help you. There are lots of options and each change calls for another change. For instance if you bought the granatelli control arms from Summit you would ave to set your pinion angle at -3.5* due to the poly bushings. But if you bought Team Z or Wolfe control arms you would need to set your pinion angle at -1* due to the solid mounting points. What I'm trying to say here is you can go with many different parts to reach the same goal. But the different parts mean you approach that same goal in a different way. The smallest of changes can make the biggest differences. To help you make the right decisions I need to know your plans. I need to know what goals you have set for the car. Is this a street car or a race car? Will you be doing any racing at all? If so what kind of racing? If drag racing, 1/4 mile or 1/8th? If you race how fast do you want to run? How much power do you want to make? If this is a street car what are your expectations? I need to know what your goals are for this car in order to help you reach them.

Re: What to do
you will either need girdles in the lifter vally, or a mexican block for anything more then 450 HP

Re: What to do
Lifter valley girdles and main girdles do absolutely nothing other than prevent throwing chunks of crankshaft thrue the oil pan when the block splits. Girdle or no girdle, once you hit that limit the block is going to split.
I say run the stock short block. Add heads/cam/intake, clutch or shift kit depending on the trans, rearend gears, and exhaust. Once that is not enough add a little nitrous. After that we can help you make crazy power with an aftermarket block. You still havent said how much power you want to make, or what you want to do with the car. Once you let us know the answere to these questions we can suggest the correct h/c/i combo for you.

Re: What to do
They are totally different motors, if you don't have a 4.6 than I would definately stick with the 5 liter. The 5.0 will always be cheaper to work with anyway.
