Do you fish?
I reckon it's better than sex.............
Why Fishing is better than sex: 1. You don't have to hide your Fishing magazines. 2. It's perfectly acceptable to pay a professional to Fish with you once in a while. 3. The Ten Commandments don't say anything about Fishing. 4. If your partner takes pictures or videotapes of you Fishing in your Whaler, you don't have to worry about them showing up on the Internet if you become famous. 5. Your Fishing partner doesn't get upset about people you fished with long ago. 6. It's perfectly respectable to Fish with a total stranger. 7. When you see a really good Fisher person, you don't have feel guilty about imagining the two of you Fishing in a Whaler together. 8. If your regular Fishing partner isn't available, he/she won't object if you Fish with someone else. 9. Nobody will ever tell you that you will go blind if you Fish by yourself. 10. When dealing with a Fishing pro, you never have to wonder if they are really an undercover cop. 11. You can have a Fishing calendar on your wall at the office, tell Fishing jokes, and invite coworkers to Fish with you without getting sued for harassment. 12. There are no Fishing-transmitted diseases. 13. If you want to watch Fishing on television, you don't have to subscribe to the Playboy channel. 14. Nobody expects you to Fish with the same partner for the rest of your life. 15. Nobody expects you to give up Fishing if your partner loses interest in it. 16. Your Fishing partner will never say, "Not again? We just Fished last week! Is Fishing all you ever think about?" |

POLL NO WORKIE
I ocasionally drag out the surfcaster and find some nice rocks to sit on (normally east coast as the west can be a bit unforgiving at times). I perfer sitting on a nice boat with a nice cold bottle of Speights or Export and fish for some tasty snapper. Must go out again soon

I sometimes go saltwater estuary fishing for flathead, bream etc. My Grandparents live on the water and have a private wharf. Very cool spot to fish. For any Australians - Woy Woy on the central coast.

I'm a City Boy too but has been fishing since I was 18 months old (which is about when I started to walk). My Dad used to fish on Devonport Wharf after work and took his infant son along to give his Mum some quiet time.
When I started to walk this became an issue so Dad had a brain wave and stuck a small but functional fishing rod in his boy's hands. Problem solved - son stood behind handrail of wharf and concentrated on the float for his sprat line (and hence did not wander off). Since then said city boy has harvested hard shelled clams (aka cockles) from the nearby beach, speared flat fish (yellow-bellied flounder) in the mudflats near his house using a sealed beam headlight and a car battery in a backpack for light, surfcast with a 15 foot 4 wrap bream rod and a 8-inch Alvey reel off Narrow Neck Beach and Flat Rock @ Muriwai, harvested mussels in the Coromandel, set nets off Te Atatu for Flounder, trolled in Lake Hawea for Rainbow and Brown Trout, used a Kon-Tiki off Ninety Mile Beach, fished in Rangitoto Channel on a boat most of his life, skin-dived and scuba dived for scallops and crayfish and whitebaited in the West Coast... plus watched porpoises ride the bow wave on a yacht he's been sailing and watched whales... C'mon Moss - Fishing is NZ's most popular recreational sport and being from a city surrounded by not one but two productive harbors you need to get out and try it... |

90 mile beach is good
went tramping around that area and decided to take a wander down to the beach. Saw a fisherman strugling to pull in his kontiki so we offered to help. Ended up being paid with 2 fair sized snapper which cooked up nicely over the embers of the campfire:smoka: Still haven't been trout fishing yet, that is next on my to do list |

That crap-ass harbor contains significant sea-life (despite the best efforts of stormwater, sewerage etc). I've fished in the Waitemata since I was a boy and while it's harder to fish than it was - it remains one of the few cities in the world where I can still fish and catch something edible and of the size to have a feed fairly regularly and not have to travel for hours. On an aside, if you have some time over summer try going up to a place called Leigh to the north of Auckland. There is a marine reserve @ a place called Goat Island. Take a loaf of bread and a couple of cups of frozen peas - hire a mask and snorkel (even better if you have one) and hop into the water just off the rocks at the right hand side. I've taken a lot of folk from overseas there and they are astounded by the wealth of sea-life. It's on your doorstep - go have a look. |
