Umm...both of those cars are modified and not stock.

A Viper GTS-R won the GTS class in the 1998 and 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans and took the overall victory at the 1999 24 Hours of Daytona.

Have you driven a Duesenberg and were disappointed by it?

Pretty sure a Saleen S7, being completely an American car, will kick the shit out of any other production car in the world right now, yes an Enzo, and yes anything else. These cars are seriously underrated. 575 hp in a 2750 pound package means you go, and you go now.

As for the Vipers and Vettes, they're just plain unbeatable for their price.

The new Saleen S7 Twin Turbo has 750 hp.

Are there any Eclipses, either stock or modified, that could beat a new Corvette Z06 at the Nurburgring with the same driver?

That's too funny!!

People make the dumbest comparisons on any car forum. Americans are stereotyped as only caring about straightline speed, but the American car haters are playing into the stereotype worse than the musclecar guys! Put you're modified Eclipse on (let's just say) the Nurburgring and try to hold a candle against a Viper or Vette (not even the z06). Let's see any of the Fast and Furious wannabes try to take on a car that's engineered to get around a track in the way the Viper and Vette is. Trust me, I love a lot of foreign cars and hate a lot of domestic ones, but some of these comparisons are just too funny.

Re: Viper too slow

whoever was driving that viper didn't exactly get a great launch. probably some rich guy with money to blow, whereas the the in the ricer prolly has too much time and was so nervous he took off just a little bit early. im not saying that import wasn't fast, but i think the results would have been different on a track. kudos to that import though, its impressive to even keep up with a viper, and i guess the import did win 'fair'. but if u put a few k into the viper like someone did with the other car, it would have just been a dot in the mirror, and would still be able to turn.

Re: Viper too slow

If you've ever really gotten to drive a 'vette or a Viper you'd know that you've got a beast under your foot. I work at a Dodge dealership and while we don't get a lot of either, the ones we do get (2-3 a month) are absolutely insane. Now thats not to say imports aren't fast, but it's also like saying all apples are the same. Everyone has their own taste and if you don't get familiar with other tastes then you can't say anything other than what you've experienced. And don't listen to everything you hear, a lot of it has to be experienced for yourself I hope you get to drive either or both a 'vette/Viper. They're sure to put a big stupid grin on anyone's face

Re: Viper too slow

I agree with the guy who was talkin about the vipers launch, i don't even think he had a launch... idk what it was... still a crazy a civic tho, but for as much money as he has into that 15k car, he could prolly be riding around in somthin that went just as fast and looked a hell of a lot better doing it.

Re: Viper too slow

Considering that the corvette has now kicked the Vipers ass, which should have never even been able to get close to, DiamlerChrysler should consider either beefing up the viper, or even cutting out of the picture. If they cut it the need to create a car with the same chassis yet they need a larger engine SRT12. Those numbers even look cool. Completly redesign the car could help to.

Eh...it's been like six months since the last post, but the Viper forums are so dead I don't think it matters. Main priority they should have with the Vipers are to LOSE WEIGHT. Then make a factory option for some 3.55's in the rear. It already has more than enough power, the tires, and the braking capability to beat the Corvette. Now give it the gearing and proper weight, not 3300 pounds.

Maybe work on the suspension a little bit, they could look into Hennessy's suspension kits.

Re: Viper too slow

If the Viper lost weight then I would probably win against a Vette. I still don't think that a Mitsubishi could win against a Vette. My neighbor is a big Subaru fan and he takes his STI out the the drag strips and tracks. His friends 2003 Z06 blew it away. I don't like Asian cars. I only like European and Americans. I would only purchase a Skyline if I had the money.

Re: Viper too slow

The vette is a 78 with a few extras and that year they were slow...Emission reasons back then technology wasn't great so better emissions meant puttin crap on and lower comp. ratios...
