Didn't someone ask about sci-fi models in another posting? Well, here's one

This is off the subject of car modeling, but I recall someone being interested in Sci-fi models in another posting. Well, here's one of a Star Wars X-wing fighter that I was woking on made by Fine Molds of Japan. It's almost done. The R2-Droid is missing and I need to apply the flat to protect the weathering and damage to the surface. The pilot was done a few nights ago.
Well I hope you guys enjoy something a bit different. I myself, get bored of doing car kits all the time. These are easier IMO. No glossy finish to worry about, no dust to get in that prized paint job, no sanding or polishing orange peel, no getting suspension to fit properly, etc. Enough gripes. If you guys like the pics I'll post more-they're a bit yellow because of lighting angles.

If its Star Wars then we'll let u off!

That looks great, the fine molds kits look really impressive and worth their money. How have u achieved the look on this i.e. the shading - airbrush???

The model was first done with acrylics from Gunze, then given a light wash with Testors enamel. The final weathering technique was discovered by accident when I was doing some Bare metal foil polishing on an airplane model which had a similar gray on the fuselage. I accidentally rubbed over to the paint with the black residue from the polish soaked cloth and I thought the effect would look great for a "space weathered" model because of the small graphite looking bits that resemble metallic particles in space. There is combo of black and pencil colored graphite streak applied with a cotton bud and cotton swabs (no airbrush used). I think some guys use the oil pastels the same way when weathering. Thanks guys!

Great looking X-Wing!

I have a couple of the FineMold kits, but I haven't found time to start them yet.

Here are a couple of my AMT/Ertl kits:

And a TIE Fighter. Both models are wired with lighting.

It's good to take a break from cars every now and then.
