Thumbs down drowned my 97 vic now it doesn't crank

I went through a foot of water with my 97' crown vic and now when I try to start it all i get is a single click sound without the engine crank over. battery ok, starter ok, fuses ok, replaced the trans range sensor, (those are getting to be quite expensive). only thing I think is left would be the starter switch on steering column . but before I throw more $$$ into my old car maybe someone out there has a better suggestion. thanks

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your engine is an interference engine. There is no extra room in the combustion chamber. More than likely water got sucked into the cylinder and hydrostatic locked the motor. This will also bend rods and valves and put holes in pistons. More than likely you need an engine. If the air filter is soaked with water, I am 100% sure it needs motor or a complete rebuild.

Re: drowned my 97 vic now it doesn't crank

Remove the spark plugs and turn the motor by hand using a wrench or socket on the crank pulley to see if the motor is locked up.

How did you test the battery and starter?

More than likely it is hydro locked.
But check the air filter housing & filter to be sure they are not full of water.

I tested the starter at the parts store and brought the battery to the local walmart for testing; also have multimeter. yep yall might have just confirmed my worst nightmares. I'll pull the plugs and hand crank the engine and let you all know for sure tomorrow. thanks

At this point a rebuilt long block would be the way to go. Just do it in a heated garage it makes it more pleasant.
