Those exhaust covers really don't do much of anything...
And, I'm not sure what you mean by "rear" exhaust manifold cover...

just take them off....
If it doesn't have anything related to smog then u don't really need them. I had a Nissan truck & the heat shield had a tube coming from it to the intake manifold & they wouldn't smog it til I replaced it.

Now you have an excuse to replace the exhaust manifold with an aftermarket header.

i was thinking about it, but a header seems like such a waste of money!! the stock exhaust manifold, has plenty of air flow!!

the stock manifold bunches up the airflow shortly after leaving the engine. a header (not headerS as some people seem to think, there is only ONE :finger: ) generally has bigger piping and longer runners so the air doesnt get restricted by the airflow coming from the other cylinders. also, some headers are tuned to make the car sound better in the same way that a trombone makes different sounds the longer or shorter it is. |

Dude...I don't know if there are many options for a 1.5L, but regardless, don't spend $300 - buy a cheap one..like Chikara (made by Hedman, they have been building headers for domestics forever!!), or some other cheap ones. Spray them with hi-temp paint often and they will work just as well as the $300+ DC Sports, etc..
I have a Chikara header with my ZC...my step-dad has built everything from 1300cc - 40 HP VW's to 350 Chevys, and he said it looked like a nice header! And if it fails in a few years, I'll buy another cheap one!!
