Parking brake catching....

put my parking brake on today and after releasing it, it would still be engaged. i would have to go a little in reverse then go forward. but today when going forward it would pop rear loud and the parking brake would engage and lock up the rear wheeels. i couldnt get them unstuck but after a little wd40 it did fine. but it will happen again the next time i do the parking brake. what do i check? do i need to tighten the cables up some?

Re: Parking brake catching....

Wow...I'm textless! My wife's 2000 GP SE started that same problem TODAY! It has 86000 miles on it.

It wouldn't let go though and it wasn't locking up the wheels either. We took it to a local shop and on the way she heard a "pop" and it stopped pulling also.

We got it to the shop and they said after an inspection, they found nothing wrong with the Ebrake, but that the front pads were at 5%!!! Not even 2 months ago they were at 50%!!!

It gets worse...they told me that the intake gasket was shot and leaking coolant into the oil and vice versa. The valve cover gaskets were shot too. They are also going to flush the brake lines after replacing the pads and turning the rotors and do a coolant flush and oil change. After everything it's going to cost me $800.

I'm sure that this is a bit inflated since the gaskets are about $250, but I need the car now...my wife is a delivery driver!

This sucks!
